As insurance professionals, HAIP is concerned about safety, because we understand that by making driving, work, public and home environments safe, lives are saved and injuries prevented. This drives down insurance claims and lowers premiums. Each December, HAIP sponsors a public high school essay writing contest on safety topics, such as distracted driving. Three students are honored at our membership meeting luncheon, at which we present a special guest speaker. In 2017, Honolulu Chief of Police Susan Ballard attended and congratulated our student winners.

HAIP started the Healthy Hawaii program in 2012, in an effort to promote fitness activities to its members. In 2014, HAIP member Katharine Nohr presented a proposal to IAIP to start an international program similar to Healthy Hawaii, which was accepted and implemented as the FIT Insurance Professional program. HAIP continues to be the leaders in our organization in its promotion of health and fitness in the sedentary insurance industry. Please join us for fitness activities, hikes and charity run/walks.
HAIP members and our Corporate Partners came out in force in support of the American Heart Association Walk. Seven of our Corporate Partners sponsored tents at the event. We were joined by thousands of others who walked either 1 mile or 4.5 miles to raise awareness and monies toward the fight of heart disease and stroke. At last count, $677,219 was raised in total for the American Heart Walk in Honolulu and HAIP was proud to be a participant of this important cause.
HAIP members Mark Coberly, Evelyn Hara and Katharine Nohr participated in the Healthy Hawaii Cinco de Mayo Walk around downtown Honolulu. They met at Pauahi Tower and began their trek to Iolani Palace, and continued their walk through downtown ending up at Aloha Tower where they enjoyed at "fiesta" of nachos and sangria at Gordon Biersch. Although it was a small group fue un rato muy divertido!
It's no joke, several HAIP members gathered at Shirokiya Japan Village in the Ala Moana Mall and walked over to Ala Moana Beach Park for a 1 mile walk (no runners) around Magic Island. It was a great opportunity for exercise, networking and just plain fun. HAIP members Chenise Blalock, Mark Coberly, Evelyn Hara, Preston Jones, Katharine Nohr and Minette Valdez enjoyed watching the beautiful sunset as they walked around Magic Island. Afterwards a few returned to Shirokiya Japan Village for a light dinner.
The Healthy Hawaii committee members are planning future walks around Honolulu and are hopeful more members and guests will join in the fun and exercise! Be on the lookout for fun advertisements for same at our upcoming membership meeting(s)!
The Bubble Run in Kapolei was FUN! Yes, there were bubbles . . . blue, pink and white bubbles! HAIP members Katharine Nohr, Mark Coberly, Tawanda Scott and Minette Valdes joined hundreds of other brave individuals for the Bubble Run. It was a 5k that consisted of runners, joggers and walkers on a course that took the participants through bubbles at different intervals of the course. There was laughing and joking as each runner came out of bubbles dyed in hues of blue and pink. Staying fit with Healthy Hawaii has never been more fun!
HAIP's Healthy Hawaii organized a Turkey Trot/Walk and Happy Hour where they walked/ran around Ala Moana Beach Park and ended at Shirokiya Japan Village for Happy Hour and networking. Kudos to Katharine Nohr, Julie Kirk and Evelyn Hara for taking on the challenge!
